Musicians

Singer, teacher, vocal coach, conductor, arranger, composer, bass player and accompanist, Tim Stiff spent twenty years in Toronto singing in concerts, broadcasts, television commercials, studio recordings, and stage productions.  He spent the first two years with the Elmer Iseler Singers, broke into jingle singing at the same time, eight years (3381 performances) with the Toronto production of "The Phantom of the Opera,” one season with Toronto Operetta Theatre, and five seasons with the Canadian Opera Company.  In 1997, Tim was invited to be in the Broadway revival of, “Candide.”   He won scholarships to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and the Opera Division, University of Toronto.  

Tim has sung with orchestras in repertoire from Baroque to Broadway and has shared the stage with such greats as Paul Stanley of Kiss, Kenny Rogers, Oscar Peterson, David Foster, Colm Wilkinson, Maureen Forrester, Rene Simard, and Yo-Yo Ma.  He has worked with children’s choirs, youth choirs, and adult choirs, mainly as guest conductor and clinician.  

He has performed under the batons of Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Jeffrey Tate, Helmut Rilling, Franz Paul Dekker, and Seiji Ozawa.  But that is the Tim Stiff that is known as a singer.  When Tim started his B.Mus. at Queen's University, he was a brass major.  That said, he spent more time playing electric bass.  In 1982, he was asked by Dave Barton to be a part of the first Dave Barton Trio with drummer/percussionist Greg Runions.  He began playing in several other bands of all styles, but continued playing jazz with Dave, as well as saxophonist Mike Allen.  Tim continues to write and arrange music for various projects.  He conceived, arranged and conducted the Limestone Learning Foundation's, "Canadian Crystal" at the Isabel in 2017, and "A Salute to the Holidays" at the Grand Theatre in 2018.
